Program

A preliminary program has been posted here and the program chairs welcome your feedback. This year for the first time, UIST will have a two parallel technical tracks. UIST has traditionally been a single track conference and many attendees (organizers included) considered that intimate setting as one of the most important features of the conference.

However, the UIST community keeps growing every year. For several years the UIST organizers tried to squeeze more papers into the programs by reducing the talk lengths, but this year this simply was not possible any more without seriously impacting the quality of the presentations.

This year we received 333 submissions (a record!) and have accepted 74 (22%). In addition, we will be hosting two TOCHI presentations as a premiere venue under SIGCHI umbrella. All these premiere HCI presentations will be presented in two nearby ballrooms (Kona Moku and Waikiki) at the conference hotel.  A map of the conference facilities can help you find these locations easily. We hope that you will enjoy the program!

Keynotes

We are very excited about our two excellent keynote speakers. Our opening keynote (Monday Oct. 6 @ 9:00am) will be given by Mark Bolas and this keynote will be open to all UIST and SUI attendees. Our closing keynote (Wednesday Oct. 8 @ 4pm) will be given be Bret Victor. All of the keynotes will be presented as a joint session in Kona Moku ballroom.

More information about the keynote speakers can be found on our keynotes page.

Kaimuki Room at the Conference Hotel (Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa)
Capacity is limited, please RSVP to Meredith Ringel Morris merrie@microsoft.com to sign up.

Breakfast & Coffee Breaks

Conference attendees will be served light breakfast each morning before the first session (Monday-Wednesday 8-9am). Each day, there will also be a morning and an afternoon coffee break where coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served.

Lunch

Lunch will not be provided. Waikiki however offers a large number and variety of restaurant and bars and our conference hotel is conveniently located right on Kalakua Ave. which is the main tourist and shopping street in Waikiki.

Our Local Arrangements Chair Scott compiled a list of his favorite local restaurants.

Attending with Kids

If you are attending the conference with children there are many kid-appropriate activities in the hotel viscinity. The beach is right in front, but the Aquarium and the Zoo are both a short walk from the hotel. For swimming with the dolphins and other water adventures, we'd recommend Sea Life Park which is about 30 min drive from Waikiki (and is also where our Luau will be held).

Mother's Room

For mothers that are nursing and need privacy, we have reserved a small conference room (labeled "Penfield’s Business Office" on the map on the second floor). The use of that room will be on the first come, first serve basis, but please be respectful of others who might need it.
