Accommodation
Conference Venue: The Paradise Hotel (★★★★★)
UIST'25 will take place at the Paradise Hotel in Haeundae, Busan, Korea.
Quoted prices include 10% service charge and 11% tax. Breakfast is available at 42,350 KRW/person/day. An extra bed can be provided for 72,600 KRW/night.
These prices will be held until 28th August 2025 and are subject to availability. Due to the very limited number of rooms available at these prices, we recommend you book early.
Check-in at the Paradise Hotel is at 3:00 pm, and check-out is at 11:00 am.
To access these rates, please use the group reservation page of the Paradise Hotel and enter the group code 12372. You can then select dates and rooms at the UIST rates, as well as extras and options. The site will collect your card details, but payment will be made on-site upon your arrival at the hotel.
Alternative Accommodation
There are many excellent hotels near the conference venue, catering to all budgets. We provide a list of reliable hotels below, each a walkable distance from the main venue. UIST'25 has no specific arrangement with these venues - you must book accommodation using the hotel website or a third-party booking service as normal.
We list these hotels in order of proximity to the venue. We list options with 3- to 5 stars.
The UIST 2025 Conference Committee, in consultation with numerous members of the UIST community and past leadership, and following prior iterations of the event, has decided upon the following approach to conference participation:
UIST 2025 is intended to be an in-person conference. Prior to submitting, all authors are requested to ensure they have the ability to attend in person.
There will be no separate “virtual attendance” registration option; all registrations are for in-person attendance.
If circumstances change and an accepted paper’s authors all cannot attend in-person, at least one author must register for the conference. They can then request the option to submit a pre-recorded talk video. This may be played during a session or made available for asynchronous viewing. We expect such requests to be rare. Approvals for pre-recorded presentations need to be requested as early as possible from program2025@uist.org, with a description of why an in-person presentation is not possible by any of the authors.
There will be no online/virtual aspect to the popular Demo session.
UIST 2025 will be primarily organized around three or four tracks across three full days, Monday 29th Sept through Wednesday 1st Oct, kicking off with the Welcome Reception on the evening of Sunday 28th Sept. Workshops and the Doctoral Symposium will also be held on Sunday 28th Sept. The engaging Demo Reception will be held on the evening of Monday, 29th or Tuesday, 30th Sept.
Full program details will be available in July (papers) and August (other tracks).
Entry to Korea
International travelers to South Korea must acquire either a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) or a Visa. To determine what you need, follow these steps:
Check here to determine if you need a K-ETA or Visa. This will depend on your citizenship.
If you need a K-ETA, you must apply for it and receive approval 72 hours prior to departure. You are strongly advised to apply for the K-ETA at least one week before your intended departure. The applicant fee is KRW 10,000 (approximately 8 USD).
If you are not eligible for a K-ETA, you must apply for a Visa (commonly a Short Term General Visa, C-3-9) for your travel to South Korea.
Visa Support Letters
The Korean Immigration Service has confirmed that a Short-Term Tourism Visa (C-3-9) is sufficient to attend ACM UIST 2025. Please check these requirements yourself by calling the immigration help desk on +82-1345 or +82-2-1345. The service is available in Korean, English and Chinese. If this does not work for you, or you are informed you need a different visa, please reach out to the general co-chairs. However, please be advised that UIST'25 is solely organized by the ACM and cannot provide a Korean business registration certificate. If you are asked to provide this documentation for your visa, please make sure you have discussed your case with the Korean Immigration Service prior to contacting us.
ACM can provide visa support letters to registered attendees of UIST'25, authors and speakers with accepted papers/posters/talks, and UIST'25 conference committee members. Please allow up to 10 business days for your information to be reviewed and your support letter to be processed. All requests are handled in the order they are received. If you cannot access this form for any reason, please email acmsupportletters@executivevents.com with the following information:
Name as it appears on your passport
Current postal mailing address
Name of the conference you are registering for
Registration confirmation number and/or
Title of your talk or presentation, if you are presenting
Transportation
Fly To Busan
Busan's airport is Gimhae International Airport (PUS). It is well connected to destinations across Asia as well as within Korea. It is easy to reach the Paradise Hotel, where UIST'25 will be held, from Gimhae Airport:
Taxi: Between 30 minutes to one hour, cost of 25,000-40,000 KRW (~20-30 USD).
Subway: 1 hour 15 minutes, cost 2,700 KRW (~2 USD) from Gimhae International Airport to Haeundae Subway Station
Seoul has two international airports. Most international travelers arrive at Incheon (ICN), but there are also connections to Gimpo (GIM) from other parts of Asia. You can get to Busan by:
Flight: If you fly on Korean Air, you can connect directly from Incheon Airport to Busan Gimhae Airport. Otherwise, you must transfer from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport (a 4,000 KRW (2.5USD) 33-minute AREX train ride). There are frequent flights from Gimpo Airport to Busan Gimhae Airport.
Train: You can take the AREX express (10000 KRW, 51 mins) or all-stop subway train (2000 KRW, ~1 hour) to Seoul Station and catch a KTX bullet train to Busan Station (50,000-60,000 KRW, 35-40 USD). There are trains as frequently as every 10-15 minutes, and the journey takes approximately 2.5-3 hours. On the weekends, it is advisable to book tickets in advance.
Bus: You can take an express bus to Busan Bus Terminal from Incheon Airport. Bus tickets (60,000-70,000 KRW, 40-45 USD) can be purchased at the airport bus terminal. The journey takes approximately 5 hours. Buses run roughly once per hour.
Train/Bus in Busan
Trains arrive at Busan Station, while most buses arrive at Busan Bus Terminal. You can get to the Paradise Hotel, where UIST'25 will be held by:
Subway: Approximately 1 hour, cost 2,700 KRW (~2 USD) from the train or bus station to Haeundae Subway Station.
Taxi: Between 30 minutes to one hour, cost of 15,000-30,000 KRW (~12-25 USD). There are taxi ranks outside both stations. Additionally, you can use Uber to call and pay for a taxi.
Bus: City buses connect both train and bus stations to Haeundae and the Paradise Hotel. Google Maps provides accurate bus information about bus schedules and routes.
Around Haeundae
The Busan subway system is the easiest way to get around Busan and to the Paradise Hotel, where UIST'25 will be held. The closest subway station to UIST'25 is Haeundae, which is about a 10-minute walk away.
You can also travel around Haeundae using taxis (local rides will be 7,000-15,000 KRW (5-10 USD)). Taxis can often be hailed in the street, or your hotel can call one for you. You can also call and pay for a taxi using Uber.
Haeundae, the neighborhood around UIST'25, is very walkable, with Haeundae beach as well as numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as supermarkets, pharmacies, and other facilities, in the near vicinity.
Travel Scholarships
Gary Marsden Travel Award
In recognition of Dr. Gary Marsden’s contributions and inspiration, SIGCHI established the Gary Marsden Travel Awards (GMTA) to support its members in attending ACM SIGCHI conferences. Those eligible to apply are undergraduate and graduate students, early-career researchers (such as those who are ≤ 5 years post-graduation), and those experiencing financial hardship or lacking institutional support.
Deadlines are on the 9th of January, February, March, May, July, September, and November at 11:59 PM AoE. You must apply to a deadline that occurs more than one month before the start of the conference.
UIST 2025 will offer Travel Scholarships to support students and early-career researchers who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference in person due to financial constraints. We are especially committed to increasing participation from individuals who are:
From historically underrepresented or marginalized groups in STEM
Based in regions or institutions with limited access to travel funding
Attending UIST or an international HCI conference for the first time
This includes (but is not limited to) individuals who identify as:
Indigenous or ethnic minorities in their region
Black, Latinx, or Pacific Islander
LGBTQIA+
Persons with disabilities
From low-income or rural communities
From universities without strong research funding or international support
The scholarship may help cover, depending on the awardee’s needs and ACM conditions:
Flights or other travel expenses
Accommodation and meals, and registration (as needed)
Important Conditions:
Scholarship recipients must be registered for the conference, but this can be done after award notifications have been released. You can register here: https://uist.acm.org/2025/attending/#registration
Reimbursement will be processed after the conference by the ACM.
Applicants must attend UIST 2025 in person and sign an attendance form at the registration desk. If the form is not signed, the award will not be disbursed.
As funds are limited, the final support amount may be less than requested and will be determined by the UIST’25 Community Co-Chairs and General Co-Chairs based on several factors, including available budget and total demand.
How to Apply
To verify your eligibility and help us allocate funding fairly, please submit your application via the link below.

Disclaimer:
The details above represent the current plans for the UIST’25 Travel Scholarship. While we are committed to providing support, the terms, eligibility criteria, and reimbursement procedures may evolve as planning progresses. All final decisions will be made by the conference organizers and will comply with ACM regulations.
Affinity Groups Lunch (Women’s First lunch + Out in HCI lunch)
UIST is hosting a Women’s First lunch and an Out in HCI lunch on Monday, 29th September from 12:30-2:30. If you want to attend both, we recommend signing up for the Out lunch, then heading back to catch the panel at the Woman’s lunch from ~1:30 on. Sign up by September 15th!
We acknowledge that many UIST attendees are parents who may need additional support with childcare in order to attend the conference. We value these participants and aim to provide financial assistance to subsidize a variety of childcare options - helping to ensure that a broader group of attendees and their families can join us at UIST 2025.
This grant provides contributions of up to 1,000,000 KRW (approximately $700 USD) per family. The grant can be used as a contribution toward:
Travel costs for children between the ages of two and sixteen
Travel costs for a companion providing childcare, specifically for non-shared transportation costs such as airfare
On-site childcare at the conference, arranged by the parent (e.g., shared care facilities, babysitting expenses)
Reimbursement will be processed after the conference by ACM.
Applicants must attend UIST 2025 in person and sign an attendance form at the registration desk. If the form is not signed, the award will not be disbursed.
The award cannot be used to cover conference registration.
As funds are limited, the final support amount may be less than requested and will be determined by the UIST’25 accessibility co-chairs based on several factors, including available budget, parental responsibilities, and total demand.
If both parents are attending, only one should request support, and this must be indicated in the application.
To apply for a childcare support grant, please submit your application via the link below.
