In-Person Conference
The UIST 2024 Conference Committee, in consultation with numerous members of the UIST community and past leadership, has decided upon the following approach to conference participation:
- UIST 2024 is intended to be an in-person conference.
- There will be no separate “virtual attendance” registration option; all registrations are for in-person attendance.
- If an accepted paper’s authors all cannot attend in-person, they will have the option to submit a pre-recorded talk video to be played to a live audience during their paper session. We expect these to be rare. Approvals for pre-recorded presentations need to be requested as soon as possible from program2024@uist.org, with a description of why an in-person presentation is not possible by any of the authors.
- There will be no online/virtual aspect to the popular Demo session.
UIST 2024 will be primarily organized around two tracks across three full days Monday through Wednesday, kicking off with the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening. The engaging Demo Reception will be held on Monday evening, and the festive Banquet on Tuesday evening.

Accommodations
All conference activities for UIST 2024, including receptions, will be in the The Westin Pittsburgh .
A block of rooms have been reserved for UIST attendees at the conference hotel, The Westin Pittsburgh.
The discounted conference rate is $249/night plus taxes and fees, available on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis.
Reservations must be made by September 10th.
The hotel will provide full refunds for cancellations up to 72 hours in advance of your stay.

Visa Support Letter
The Association for Computing Machinery does not issue formal invitation letters for visas to attend ACM sponsored conferences. However, you can request a Visa Support Letter from ACM: https://supportletters.acm.org/ ACM is able to provide visa support letters to registered attendees, authors and speakers with accepted papers/posters/talks, and conference committee members. Please allow up to 10 business days for your information to be reviewed and your support letter to be processed. All requests are handled in the order they are received.
If you cannot access this form for any reason, please email acmsupportletters@executivevents.com with the following information:
- Name as it appears on your passport
- Current postal mailing address
- Name of the conference you are registering for
- Registration confirmation number and/or
- Title of your talk or presentation, if you are presenting

Travel Scholarships
Gary Marsden Travel Award
In recognition of Dr. Gary Marsden’s contributions and inspiration, SIGCHI established the Gary Marsden Travel Awards (GMTA) to support its members in attending ACM SIGCHI conferences. Those eligible to apply are undergraduate and graduate students, early-career researchers (such as those who are ≤ 5 years post-graduation), and those experiencing financial hardship or lacking institutional support.

Deadlines are on the 9th of January, February, March, May, July, September, and November at 11:59 PM AoE. You must apply to a deadline that occurs more than one month before the start of the conference.

UIST Travel Scholarship
UIST will have its own Travel Scholarship program to support underrepresented minority students in STEM.
Travel Scholarship Application Process
Thank you for expressing interest in attending the UIST 2024 conference. Please note that travel scholarship funding is specifically dedicated to supporting underrepresented minority students in STEM. Students must identify as a member of a historically underrepresented group, which includes but is not limited to the following identities:
- Native American/Alaskan Native/Pacific Islander
- Black/African American
- Hispanic/Latinx
- Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans, Queer, Asexual, Intersex, Non-binary and others
- Persons with disabilities
To verify your eligibility, we kindly ask that you provide a CV/Resume and a 1-page document that includes the following:
- A statement confirming that you are a student that identifies with a historically underrepresented group (as described above). This statement does not need to include which group(s) you identify with, it is only to confirm that you understand the requirements and are indeed eligible (1-2 sentences)
- Have you attended UIST?
- Have you attended other HCI conferences in the past?
- Why you are interested in attending UIST 2024
- Explanation of financial need
- An approximate breakdown of anticipated travel costs. Hotel, meals, and registration will be covered by UIST.
Please apply through this form, by Thursday September 19th. We will only use the documents to verify your eligibility to receive travel funding. It will be reviewed in confidence and only shared with corresponding chairs of UIST 2024 (diversity & general chairs).
